My homestay in Quito feels like home.

The people here are terribly friendly. Here I am, a complete stranger, and this lovely couple welcomes me to their home for only $15/day. Aside from the exchange of cold hard cash, it feels eerily like home. Here are my hosts, Paula and Jaime. My Spanish is still kinda rusty, but I am able to understand almost everything they say to me.

Of course, I am fluent in food. Tonight, Paula made beef with vegetables and a spinach salad. It was a good thing Jaime and Paula like wine - I'm not yet ready to drink the water. Tomorrow, Paula, who also loves to eat, is taking me to the town square to sample the local cuisine. ¡Caray!

And so it begins

Kate and I were probably turtles in past lives. Behold our awe and wonder at the grace of evolution. Take note - one of these bags is packed with medical supplies.
